The counterweight is distance. Kanata sits 20 to 25 km from the core, and travel time is billable on almost every hourly quote in this city. A move from Bridlewood to Barrhaven is a real drive, and a crew based downtown is on the clock coming out and going back. Where it is available, using a west-end crew saves more than negotiating the hourly rate does.

The other local specific is the tech-sector relocation. Kanata North generates a steady stream of interprovincial and international moves, which are weight-and-distance jobs rather than hourly ones, and often involve storage in transit while a house purchase closes. If an employer is paying, ask early whether the allowance is paid to you or billed to the company, because that determines whose name goes on the contract and the estimate.

One practical note for Stittsville: several of the newer streets are still finishing, and construction traffic, temporary road narrowing and unpaved shoulders make truck access unpredictable. Send the mover a photo of the street and the driveway approach before the day.
